World's Biggest Riding Lesson 30 September 2009
On 30 September 2009, CHAMPION equestrian Pippa Funnell paid a special visit to Cranleigh to celebrate a landmark birthday.
RDA National launched its 40th anniversary celebrations internationally with the World’s Biggest Riding Lesson on 30 September. More than 5,000 people rode in support of RDA on the day setting a world record for the number of riders having a lesson at the same time. The event marked the start of a series of celebrations and special events to mark RDA’s 40th year, which is being supported by Countrywide, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of products and advice to the rural community.
Cranleigh RDA members took part in this very special event and gave the day a party atmosphere, with riders from the Jigsaw School, St. Dominic’s School, Lockwood Centre and Gosden House School all taking part and going home with a rosette as a reminder of the day. In total, over the course of the day and even running into the evening, 45 rides were given by five different instructors using our eight horses. The lunchtime riders were treated to the extra excitement of receiving their rosettes from Pippa Funnell herself, and she stayed on to share the ‘party lunch’, complete with celebratory cake, with the riders, helpers and carers and Cranleigh RDA volunteers.
