Our Ponies
We always keep an eye open for suitable RDA ponies (Very old ponies are not suitable, the work is harder than it may look). A combination of the right size, shape and temperament is very hard to find. We will buy or loan. When buying ponies we always ask for a minimum 2 week trial period which many dealers refuse to give so that makes it additionally difficult. Do let us know if you hear of anything!
Born in 2003, Perdigau is a 14hh grey pony who came to us from the Camargue region of France, a gift of the Anglo French Charity SLL (Sete Lorient London). Perdigau was ridden with 9 other Camargue ponies over 1000 miles on a 5 month journey up through France over the spring and summer of 2008, arriving at Cranleigh in October, quite weary! Perdigau is sweet natured and highly intelligent and is settling to life in his new home at CRDA and the third set of companions of his short life. We hope that Casi’s Farm will be his home for the rest of his life.
Badger is a 15hh bay cob from Ireland who joined us in November 2008. Though only 7, he is shaping up well and is on track to become one of our maximum weight bearers in a further year or so as he fully matures physically. He has lovely generous movement and excellent forward going paces which offer a very therapeutic and rewarding ride. He has many fans! Badger is owned by West Sussex Gennetts Farm RDA Group and loaned to Cranleigh RDA.
Blue is on loan to the group and is a much loved family pony. He is tiny at 12hh with very small ears and is a huge favourite with riders. He loves people and is extremely tolerant of any attention he receives. Many feel they would like to take him home in their car boot. However, although very small, he goes like a rocket when out hacking, few can keep up with him.
Rafferty is an excellent RDA pony as he is obedient, forward going and very tolerant. He is a lightweight piebald cob of 14hh who is quick to learn and is particularly good to use with our electronic hoist for wheelchair bound riders. He was bought for us by Seafare Fish and Chips of Cranleigh in 2007.
Kestrel is a 14hh Highland pony - dun coloured, and fairly new to the group. He has been a family pony with the same owner for many years and is a very affectionate and gentle pony who loves people. He is a favourite of many nervous riders as he seems to be genuinely interested in them and lets them pat and stroke him endlessly.
Hamish A liver chestnut 14.2hh Highland, a weight
carrier. Hamish is a very good RDA pony. A delightful temperament and sweet natured, he
is very popular due to his good looks. On loan to the group.
Paddy Black gelding 15.hh joined RDA in October 2004 and is proving an
excellent RDA pony. He has done lots of
competitions in the past and is proving very popular with more able riders. Has a very sweet nature and is very
pretty. Owned by West Sussex Gennetts
Farm RDA group and loaned to Cranleigh RDA.
