Report from the Fun Day on 6 May 2009
This is an event organised and funded by the Regional Committee and held each year in a different location in Surrey, Kent, West Sussex or East Sussex. The day is a chance for riders to ride in new surroundings and try different things, such as a Handy Pony course, gymkhana games, or even a little jumping course.
Cranleigh Group always attends these events if possible and each year invites a different group of riders to take part. This year’s Fun Day was held at Felbridge Showground, East Grinstead, and out of the 68 riders taking part from all over the Region, eight were children from Cranleigh.
They all had a go at the various courses available and came home loaded with rosettes having had a great time. Thomas, Paddy, Hamish and Rafferty were well behaved and sensible in the strange surroundings but it has to be said, they had been before! Not so Perdigau, our new little Camargue pony, who did not this year take part but went along to familiarise himself with the proceedings and get some useful experience. As he is young and it’s all new to him some of it he found very scary!
A big thanks must go to all the helpers who turned out – firstly to get the ponies ready really early in the morning and load all the tack and equipment necessary for the day out. Secondly to those who lead the ponies throughout what is always a very exhausting day. And finally, to those who organised all the unloading and sorting out the ponies at the end of the day.
